Getting Started with Microgreens in the Philippines
Microgreens are one of the easiest crops to grow at home, especially in the Philippine climate. They require minimal space, very little equipment, and you can go from seed to harvest in just 7–14 days.
What You Need
To get started, you only need shallow trays, a growing medium (coco peat works great and is widely available), seeds, and a spray bottle. Popular varieties for beginners include sunflower, pea shoots, and radish microgreens.
Growing Conditions
In the Philippines, indoor growing near a window with indirect sunlight works well. Avoid direct afternoon sun as it can dry out your trays quickly. Keep the growing medium moist but not waterlogged.
Harvesting
Harvest when the first set of true leaves appears, usually between days 7 and 14 depending on the variety. Cut just above the soil line with clean scissors. Rinse gently and enjoy fresh or store in the refrigerator.
